Get A New Look By Changing The Button On Your Jacket

I want to talk with you about the buttons that are on your jacket.

When you have a specific color button on your jacket, it gives your jacket a
certain look, and, just by changing the color of the button it will give the jacket
a different look.

The little details on your clothes makes a big difference.

By wearing a jacket, it can dress up the look of a plain looking shirt that you have on.

Every Woman Has Secret Feelings About Her Body!

Every Women Has Secret Feelings About copy

Every woman has secret feelings about how she feels about her body!

Secret feelings don’t just show up one day in your mind and heart, it’s like with anything that you struggle with, It starts when you were a baby.

The one thing that I have always thought was really fascinating is how little
baby girls are so aware of what’s going on around them.  If you’ve ever watched
little babies, you’ll understand what I’m talking about.  They seem to be so much
older than they really are!  I think it’s just amazing how these little spirits that have
come to earth are so much more valiant then ever before.

And for that reason I want to focus on baby girls that become toddlers, pre-
teenagers, teenagers and then women because, those are the stages in a woman’s
life that she becomes more and more aware of how her body looks as she gets older.

If you’re a woman, you should have gone through all of those stages in your life and
are now at a point where you have recognized that you have these secret feelings
about your body!

Secret feelings can be good or bad, and maybe you have both good and bad feelings
about certain parts of your body because maybe, you might like your legs but not
really liking the rest of your body.  There’s no end to what women can feel.

Baby girls are always paying attention to what’s going on around them, all the time.
That’s just how girls are created.  If you think about it, that kind of awareness is
something that continues on into adulthood.  I know it’s definitely a gift from God
given to baby girls, so that when they grow up and become adults and have their
own families they will be able to know what’s happening and can nurture their
own children.

With that in mind, it’s safe to say that how girls feel about their body is something
that they learn from the women around them.  It’s usually a woman and/or grand-
mother that are/is the one taking care of and raising little girls.

Everything that a baby, toddler, pre-teen & teenage girl hears about her body and
other women’s bodies is taken in and processed in a very unique way deep within
her mind and heart, because everyone is different.

From what I’ve seen and heard over the last 25 years working with women and
having women clients, is that most of what they say about their bodies is usually
negative.  There were some that had extremely negative feelings.

Because I’ve sewn for women for such a long time, I thought I’ve heard it all!
But, you know what happens when I have to take my clients body measurements?
They start to reveal their secret feelings about how they feel about their bodies.
I guess you might say that they trust me enough to let me take their body
measurements, so they trust me enough to tell me how they feel…about a
lot of things besides their body.

They’ve heard women in their life say things like – I have a big butt, I’m so fat,
I’m too short, I’m ugly compared to _ _ _ _ _(you fill in the blank), my boobs are
not big enough, I have thunder thighs!  Wow!  That would scare anyone.

These are only a few of the things that women think and secretly feel about
themselves, I have heard many more things from women but I won’t list them
all because it’s really sad.

A lot of the secret feelings women have about their bodies are a learned behavior
and comparing themselves to other women.  It’s just natural for a little girl
growing up to copy what the women in their life are feeling, saying and doing –
even if it’s harmful to their mind, heart, body and spirit.

It is possible to overcome this kind of negative feeling about your body.  It will
take a little time if you’re willing and want to let go of those negative feelings
that have been dragging you down for who knows how long.  It’s not worth
holding on to negative secret feelings that are probably not true.

Women come in all shapes and sizes which is a wonderful thing, because that
makes us all unique.  You have to know that your value as a woman is priceless.

One of the most powerful things that you can do to get started on having a
more positive feeling about your body is by learning how to dress for your body
shape, and height.

I can’t stress enough how powerful it is to dress in a way that makes you look
good in the clothes that you have on!  I’ve seen it over and over again for many
years how wearing the right style of clothes that works to highlight the right
parts of your body and that fits you perfectly gives you a boost of confidence.
Now that’s powerful!

Always remember – you want to wear clothes that work best for YOUR body
shape and height, not wear the style of clothes that the fashion models are
wearing that you see on commercials and in magazines.

When YOU look good, you FEEL good!

Summer Is Here! So What Are You Going To Wear?

Summer is here, so what are you going to wear?  Have you had a chance to think about it?

Summer time is really a fun time, especially when you can wear all of your really casual, loose
fitting and funky printed clothing.

And the really nice thing about that is, that you don’t have to give an explanation to anyone about
why you’re wearing what you’re wearing.  After all it’s summer right?  Anything goes!  Or does it?

I find it very interesting that in this 21st century so many people have gotten very, very lax in how
they dress.  I get it, people want to be comfortable in their clothes, nothing too restricting or binding
as well as not feeling or being hot in what they put on.  (I’m talking temperature hot, not looking hot!)
That’s for another time.  😉

Just because it’s summer time, doesn’t mean that you should dress sloppy and not care about what
you’re wearing or what you look like.

Do you know what styles of clothes you could wear on a hot summer day that will make you look
like you know how to dress?  And look cute at the same time.

Here are some really cute ideas for you to choose from

This orange maxi style dress is great to wear even if you’re only going to the beach or swimming
pool and while wearing your bikini underneath it.  You don’t always have to put on shorts and
a T-shirt when you’re heading out to the water.  A dress will be a lot cooler too, it allows the air
to circulate up and down your body.

Are you planning on going to a pool or beach party in the afternoon and don’t know what to wear?
This blue ankle length maxi dress is a great look for when you’re at the party that’s continuing on
into the evening.  This dress is also great to wear if you’re self-conscious about your legs.

Details make all the difference in an outfit.  Take a look at the little detail on the back of this dress,
it has crisscross straps at the back scoop neckline, the straps of the dress are crocheted and
there is a slit on the left side of the dress from the knee down.

For those ladies that want to wear a casual dress with sleeves, here is a simple tie-dye shirt dress
made of cotton.  It has a round neckline, mid-bicep to elbow length sleeve (it depends on how long
you arms are) and the length of the dress comes to the knees.  This dress is definitely comfortable
for those of you ladies that want to be comfortable during the hot summer months.

Not interested in wearing a dress, but you want to cover up your legs when you’re out enjoying
the world around you and visiting friends?  Bermuda shorts is another option for you to wear.
This particular shorts has a tummy-control panel sewn in the shorts for those of you that have
a tummy from having children or other reasons and need (or want) a little help with holding in your
tummy.  White is a great color for summer because white reflects the heat from the sun and keeps
you a little cooler while you’re on the go.

Bermuda shorts are also great for women that have varicose veins that are showing in your thigh
area and are self-conscious about it.  The nice thing about white is that you can wear just about
any kind of blouse or top with it and it can be any color of the rainbow that your heart desires.
After all it’s summer, why not have some fun wearing bright and beautiful colors – it will brighten
your day.

These are just some of the styles that you can wear this summer that will make you look like you
know how to dress and make you feel good at the same time.  Simple, comfortable and not sloppy.
We love that!  And who knows, you might even get compliments from those around you.

For those of you that live here in Hawaii like I do and other tropical places in the world, you can use
these styles of clothing more often than most of the people in the world.  No snow here in Hawaii!

The other nice part about these styles is that they don’t cost a lot.  You don’t have to spend a lot to
look good, you just have to buy the right pieces of clothing that works for your body shape, lifestyle
and budget.

It’s Time For FASHION!

6:19:15-It's Time For FASHION

It’s time to add the FASHION into the FashionableFianance.com!

For a while now I’ve only been writing, talking and podcasting about
you and your finances.  While learning about your finances is extremely
important, so is fashion (in my opinion of course).

I say that fashion is important because everyone has to wear clothes!
There’s just no way around it, especially when the weather is really
hot and humid and you don’t really want to put clothes on.

I will continue to talk about finances in between all of the fashion
information I share, because…what you wear does have an impact
on your finances!  I will be sharing with you why and how in the coming
months.  So stay tuned!

For right now I want you to know that It’s important to care about
what you wear.

I have a question for you:

Did you ever stop to think about what you wear everyday?

With life being so busy all the time, it’s really hard to get everything
in your life working for you the way you want it on a daily basis.
Fashion and clothes is not always the first thing on people’s mind
when they get up in the morning.  Sometimes I think a lot of people
are like me and are just happy to know that we even got out of bed,
especially when you’re tired and the bed is nice and cozy!

Ok, got a little off topic, but I just had to share that. 🙂

For some, the idea of having to put together an outfit feels frustrating
and then having to do it in the morning is even more frustrating,
especially if you’re in a rush to get ready, get children ready and get
out the door in time.  Oh yah, I forgot to mention all the stuff that needs
to happen in between the getting dressed and getting out the door.

It can make anyone crazy!  I’ve been there, done that.  It’s not fun.
Learning from the past is sooo great, because now I can help other
women with these kinds of things that I’ve gone through as a mother
with 4 children – trying to get out the door. (In one piece)

Learning how to dress and what clothes look best on you can be
simple and fun with some help if you’re open to recommendations.
Most women I know are open to learning what they can do to up their
style.

Who doesn’t want to look good in their clothes, right?

I do know that not everyone is interested in fashion and style, and
that’s OK, you don’t have to be.  BUT, you do have to be interested
in knowing how to dress for your body type, what colors look best
on you and how to make sure your clothes fit you properly.  All of
these things will make a big difference on how you feel while you’re
wearing your clothes.

These three things are the most common areas of fashion and style
that a lot of people don’t know and understand, which ends up in
buying clothes that don’t work for them and a lot of money being
wasted on those items.

I know a few women that have bought clothes because they thought
the items were really nice and they loved the color and oh… it was on
sale and was really cheap, only to hang it in their closet with the store
tags still on the clothes and never, ever has these clothes seen the light
of day again.

Have you ever done things like that?

If you have, it’s OK.  I would just recommend that you ask yourself some
questions, like:

~Are you ever going to wear that item of clothing in your lifetime?

~What did you like about that item, that made you buy it?

~Did you buy it because you were just having a bad day

and needed to do some emotional shopping?

~Does it fit you right?  If you don’t remember, try it on.

If you don’t know the answers to any of these questions, then I would
recommend that you give it to someone that you know who would really
appreciate it and would fit into it.  Or, if you are ashamed to give it to
someone that you know then consider donating it to an organization that
helps women get back up on their feet and helps them look for a job.

These organizations always need new items of clothing for women to
look professional while they are going on job interviews.  Either way,
don’t hang onto it if you know you will never wear it.

It’ just creates clutter and takes up space in your closet that you could
be using for something that you’ll actually wear on a regular basis.  Believe
it or not, clearing out your closet is one of the first steps to learning about
how to dress for your body type, what colors look best on you and having
your clothes fit you right.

It’s the first step because when you have a closet full of clothes that you
don’t even wear, whether it’s brand new or not creates a place of confusion
and sometimes stress.  I can also bet that at least half of the clothes in your
closet don’t fit you right.

So, as soon as you can, open your closet and see what’s going on in there.
Start by pulling out an item of clothing that still has tags on them, or you
know that you will never wear again.  A little at a time is the best thing to
do, don’t try to tackle your closet all in one day.  No stressing allowed.

I know that if you just start there, you will immediately feel an interesting
kind of relief.  Try it and find out!

A Hui Hou Malama Pono, until next time, take care.

Janin

Are You A Kinesthetic Learner?

In general a Kinesthetic learner is someone that has to hear, see and touch something in
order for them to fully learn and understand something.

I’m back talking about learning styles. I mentioned in the ‘Are You A Visual Learner’
article that I love to talk about learning styles. I think I’m really excited to talk about
it as much as I can because I know how I learn now and it’s not a mystery to me anymore.
(I don’t like mysteries about myself!)

Kinesthetic learning is so interesting because it uses the most important senses that
we have to learn… our hearing, our vision, our sense of touch and a lot of times our
sense of smell.

I am a Kinesthetic learner. Have you ever thought about what kind of l earner you are?
You might be a Kinesthetic learner too.

I know that I didn’t know what kind of learner I was until I was an adult.
Most people don’t think about it because it’s not taught in school.

So when you are learning something, at what point do you get it?… after the 3rd,
4th or 5th time?
If you don’t know what kind of learner you are, it could affect your ability to work
with your personal finances effectively.

So what do you do now?

Once you’ve finally learned what kind of learner you are, and start using those
senses more often you’ll start getting those ah-ha moments and it makes you
feel good because struggling takes its toll on you and then it becomes easy to
give up. We all need successes in our lives, including our finances.

Something That Makes You Happy Just By Looking At It

Have you ever thought about what makes your happy just by looking at it?
For example have you ever looked at a bottle of perfume (if you have and wear
perfume that is) and for some unknown reason it made you smile and maybe
even made you feel happy without you even realizing that it did until you took
your attention off of that bottle of perfume.  It could have been the pretty bottle
that the perfume comes in or could it have been the remembrance of the wonderful
scent of that perfume you wear, maybe it was both of those things that made you smile.

That’s what happened to me the other day as I glanced over to where my perfume
bottle sits and  for some reason I was just so mesmerized as I was observing how pretty
the bottle is and the color of the liquid (the perfume) which is light pink, something so simple
but yet so beautiful.

It’s amazing that the creator of that perfume really took the time to create this
fabulous smelling perfume and took the time to think about all the little details like
the shape of bottle, the cover (not just any ordinary cover) the color of the words,
and the font.  It just makes you want to reach out and hold it in your hands!

That’s how your life is made up of, a lot of small little details in everything around
you.  You probably haven’t even thought about it in that way until now and if you
have, I say “yah!” that means that you are paying attention to the many small little things
that make you happy.  If not that’s ok, now is the time to start.

I would love to give you 1 step to take to design and create your life so that you can
learn to become aware of those wonderful little things in your life that are important
and make you happy.

When you first get up in the morning, look around you and make a mental
note of all the things you see that you love.  Starting to look at all the little things on
a daily basis is the beginning of cultivating your awareness of the bigger things
in your life that is equally important, but, have not really been recognized before.
We all have those things.

What’s Your Style?

‘What’s your style’ is the question I have asked women, and these are some of the things
that they’ve said when the subject of style came up. …. Ummm, I don’t know.’
or ‘I’m a jeans and  t-shirt kind of girl’ or ‘I like pants, no dresses’ or ‘I’m not sure really what
my style is’ or ‘no nonsense’. It’s very interesting to hear these answers because most women
don’t really think about what their style is.

So you might ask, ‘Why are you talking about style anyway, what does that have to do with
anything?  Well, I’m glad you asked. Now is the time to think about that.
There is a style to everything that you do: The way you dress, the way you decorate your home,
the way you throw a party, the way you write, the way you behave, even the way you talk.
A lot of people haven’t really thought of these things as a style.

I want to talk about the way you dress.  Whether you even realize it or not, how you dress does
affect the way you feel, act and carry yourself.  This applies to men too, even though I posed the
question to women about style.

What I have found in the 28 years that I’ve been sewing for and dressing women, is that most
of the time they aren’t paying attention to the style that they like and how it will look on them.
What tends to happen is that when they go shopping for clothes, they are usually drawn to a
color that they like regardless if that color looks good on them when they put the item of clothing
on.  And sometimes it doesn’t even fit right on their body.

What you wear really does have a psychological effect on you when you get dressed, that’s why
some people will put on two or three different outfits before leaving home.  It could be that in your
mind you might see that a certain outfit you put on doesn’t look or feel good at that moment,
but you can’t figure out why so you take it off and put on another outfit and so on.

Usually this happens because of one or all of these three things: the fit, color, and style.
When you’re wearing something that fits you right, the color is the right shade for your skin tone
and the style compliments or accentuates your body in the right places, you will always feel
good when you get dressed at the start of your day.

When these three things are in place you will always feel good about what you wear, you will act
accordingly without even realizing it and you will carry yourself in a way that people will start to
notice that something is different about you (for the better).

Take an inventory of what’s in your closet and start being honest with yourself about your clothes
and if it makes you feel alive when you put it on.
